DAY 2

Amman City Tour – Ajloun Castle – Ajloun

Good morning in Amman, Jordan! After breakfast, we will start with a cultural walk through Amman. Built on 7 hills, now spreading on more than 20. It’s a big city with buildings made of white Jordanian limestone (as dictated by municipal law), Middle Eastern atmosphere and amazing views - to catch the best one, we will take you on the Citadel. You will see the whole city and the Temple of Hercules, the Umayyad Palace and the Archaeological and Folklore museums. Then, you will see the magnificent Roman Theatre. Afterwards, you will enjoy a walk through the old city called “West Al Balad”. It has hundreds of shops, coffee shops and local restaurants. Wherever you shop, don’t be surprised if the shopkeeper offers you a cup of coffee while you decide on your purchase - it’s all part of the friendly, Jordanian shopping experience. Continue to Rainbow street for an exploration walk, enjoying the colorful streets, stairs, artistic cafes and art galleries. Next, we will head to Ajloun village to visit Ajloun Castle (Qal’at Ar-Rabad) that was built by Saladin’s general in 1184 AD to control the iron mines of Ajloun, and to counter the progress of the Crusaders by dominating the three main routes leading to the Jordan valley and protecting the communication routes between Jordan and Syria. A fine example of Islamic architecture, the fortress dominates a wide stretch of the northern Jordan Valley.
