Looking out towards Aqaba, Jordan 16 Sep 2016
About this photo
Aqaba's position, perched on Jordan's only strip of coastline along the Red Sea, is right in the thick of the Middle East – the view here, from Eilat, Israel, shows just how close the two cities are. Indeed, at night the lights of the two cities seem to merge into one twinkling curve, and visitors to either country can easily visit the neighbouring resorts. Aqaba also vividly demonstrates Jordan’s central position in the Arab world: from here, one can gaze simultaneously on four countries: Israel, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Jordan.
Aqaba is home to many fascinating archaeological sites and offers an array of water-based activities on the Red Sea – our Treasures of Jordan trip concludes here, so you can finish an exciting adventure around the country with a couple of days on the beach.
