The road to Monte Fitz Roy, Argentina 29 Jul 2017
About this photo
The Patagonian Lake District region is an increasingly popular destination for trekkers. Many trails of varying difficulty can be attempted. However, only the most experienced should attempt the spectacular Monte Fitz Roy (3,440m/11,000ft). It is one of the most difficult peaks in the world to climb. On the western fringes of the Patagonian icecap, Fitz Roy chain receive the full force of winds blowing in from the Pacific. Expect to see icy blue lakes, glaciers, and stark mountains stretching over a vast area under the clear sky. Add a few extra days to Insight Guides' Wild Patagonia trip to explore the mountains around El Chaltén.
