About this photo
Florence’s cathedral, dedicated to Santa Maria del Fiore, is a striking Italian Gothic building. It is the fourth-largest church in the world, and was completed in 1434. Architect Arnolfo di Cambio designed the main church, with additions by Lorenzo Ghiberti and Filippo Brunelleschi who worked on the dome, and Giotto who designed the bell tower. Giotto’s bell tower is stunning, making use of the same white, red and green marble that adorns the main cathedral.
