About this photo
The Orlando Power Station was a coal-fired station that was decommissioned in 1998. The cooling towers are a prominent Soweto landmark, and were part of the clean-up operation during the run-up to the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
One tower is painted in the colours and logo of the tournament sponsor, while the other is covered in murals and folk art that celebrates the culture and traditions of the people of Soweto.
