About this photo
Fields of shibasakura (pink moss) surround Mount Fuji and the area of the Fuji five lakes in Japan. See the snow-capped tip of the volcano rising in the distance on clear days across the vast expanse of colour.
Every year the Shibasakura Festivals is held near Lake Motosukura, from May to June, when the flowers blossom. Over 800,000 stalks of shibasakura grow in varying hues from white to pink to purple. Stalls sell pots of pink moss and other souvenirs alongside food and drink which you can savour while taking in the breathtaking view.
