About this photo
It's hard to find a lake more photographed than Hakone's Ashinoko in Japan. This serene lake is overlooked by Japan's most iconic mountain, Mount Fuji. The lake was formed in the caldera of Mount Hakone following its last explosion 3000 years ago.
The best view can be seen from Motohakone. However, getting the right conditions to be able to see the iconic Mount Fuji behind the lake can prove challenging. The best conditions are in the colder months, during the early morning or late afternoon. Cruise and leisure boats are often seen bobbing on the water's surface, and make a great way to get a good view.
