Folk dancers at the Equatorial Line, Ecuador 30 Jun 2017
About this photo
Each month sees numerous festivals take place in Ecuador. These festivals have grown from the original pagan celebrations of harvest and solar cycles to coincide and connect with the Catholic celebrations of the religious settlers. Festivals involve whole towns, strengthening the town's bond and continuing the countries cultures which date back hundreds of years. Typical festivities involved fireworks, processions, masquerades, folkloric dancing and traditional clothing. Popular sights such as the Mitad del Mundo (Equatorial Line) monument are great places to see traditional dancing.
