Desert Bighorn Sheep in Zion National Park 19 Jul 2016

About this photo
A cheeky bighorn sheep peeks over sandstone rocks; the species is a recent return resident to Zion National Park after years of persecution. At twilight, you may also glimpse a coyote or mule deer, while mountain lions, bobcats, badgers, foxes, and weasels lead very private lives here and are rarely encountered. Your companions throughout much of the park will be sociable little ground squirrels, camp-robbing ringtails, and noisy ravens and pinyon jays, whose chatter usually drowns out the more melodic canyon wren and other songbirds.
