About this photo
Cape Town is known for its surf and turf culture. The area of St James is particularly photogenic, recognisable for its brightly-painted beach huts lining the sands. The warm tidal pools here are great for small children.
Nearby Gordon’s Bay, 25km (15 miles) away, is surfer heaven, but Capetonians of every description come here to ride the waves, paddle and picnic. You can buy surfing equipment, boogie boards and so on, have a meal, order a takeaway or simply relax over a drink.
