Aluvihara Cave Temple

After an early breakfast at the hotel proceed to Kandy with a stop at the ancient Aluvihara Cave Temple.It is of great significance in the history of Buddhism. It was the place where the oral teachings of the Buddha, the Tripitaka, were committed to writing for the first time in 3rd century AD. The language of these Buddhist scriptures, Pali, influenced the development of the Sinhala language.Arrive in Kandy.Most often referred to as the hill capital of Sri Lanka, Kandy offers a diverse variety of experiences to its visitors ranging from history, culture and simple scenic beauty coupled with a touch of urbanity.Visit the beautiful Royal Botanical Gardens, Peradeniya. It is well known for its collection of a variety of orchids and many tropical floras.Late evening visit the Temple of the Scared Tooth Relic.The present temple was constructed mainly under Kandyan kings from 1687 to 1707. The temple embellishments of wood and ivory carvings and elaborate frescoes bear the strong marks of Kandyan artist-styles. The tooth relic is placed within seven golden caskets and the pilgrims are only permitted to view the casket a few feet away from the altar.
